Announcing Our New Video Series in Partnership With AAFCA and BMe Community

2017 is off to an amazing start and we couldn’t be more proud to kick it off by partnering with the African American Film Critics Association and BMe Community.

Together we are bringing you a fun and powerful Smart Money financial literacy video series that cover topics from saving money to building credit to how the #BankBlack and #BuyBlack Movement helps to create jobs & support community development.

In the first video, we asked Millennials three questions:

  1. What do you most frequently spend your paycheck on?
  2. How do you save money?
  3. Do you Bank Black and what do you know about the #BankBlack Movement?

Check out their answers and then head over to our Facebook page to let us know your money habits.

Together, we can educate our community about money and the importance of the #BankBlack and #BuyBlack Movement.

OneUnited Bank

When we speak of empowerment, and independence, this is where we can start. If you look at other communities, they have their own markets, businesses, purchases, jobs and financial services for members in their own communities. Why shouldn't we do the same for ourselves. I look at the black townships that came about after the emancipation and they flourished until other, though well meaning, members in the black community fought against this form of self reliance in exchange for "integration". The result of that has been joblessness. Why would they hire us before hiring their own. I see this in the Hispanic communities. Also, obtaining a loan from a bank is a challenge for many of us. Let's not talk about jobs. We've spent so much time"fighting" for the right to succeed in"their" world, I'd rather put that energy into building our own community.
